Kitchen Tips

A few simple tips for cooking and storing Cherchies products!!

... Seasonings ... Keep Cherchies seasoning mixes fresh by storing them in your freezer (not the refrigerator). Take them out to use for your recipe, then back they go into your freezer.

... Soups ... If you're not going to cook up Cherchies soup mixes for a while, store them in your freezer to preserve shelf life.

Freeze your leftover soup in serving size portions. Microwave for a healthy lift-me-upper.

If concerned about the sodium contents of our soups, use only a portion of the seasoning packet in each soup mix. Then season with Cherchies No Salt Seasonings such as Garlic'n Herbs or use hot sauce or the fresh seasonings of your choice.

If you have had our soup mix in your cabinet for a prolonged period of time, the product is still good. However, the seasoning pack may have hardened, but it will dissolve in cooking. Also, the beans may take longer to cook.

... Mustard ... The heat in any hot mustard product diminishes over a period of time. To delay this from occuring, keep your unopened jar of Champagne Mustard in your refrigerator instead of your cabinet after purchase. Your mustard will stay hot for several months longer than if it were stored in your cabinet.

... Preserves and Jellies ... If your preserve or jelly crystallizes, heat briefly in your microwave WITH THE LID OFF. Stir. The heat will melt the sugar crystals which sometimes form. CAUTION: The jar will get hot so you must handle with care.

Slow Cooker Directions for Cherchies Soups

Many of our bean soups can be prepared in a 5-quart slow cooker. However, you will need to make a few adjustments in the preparation.

- Add less water (1 to 2 cups) than the soup package directions indicate. (When cooking in a slow cooker, the water does not evaporate as readily as it does in stove top cooking.)

- When you are cooking soups that have pasta or rice in the packages, we recommend that you cook the pasta and/or rice separately in boiling water until done to your taste, drain, and then add the pasta to your finished soup in the slow cooker.

- When you are cooking soups that suggest adding meat, chicken or pork to the mixture you can add them to the slow cooker at the beginning of the cooking process along with the beans. The meats do not have to be precooked before adding them, however, you may want to remove whatever oil has accumulated.

The following directions are examples of how to cook our bean soups in the slow cooker. *Please keep in mind cooking times may vary. Refer to the instructions that came with your slow cooker.

Cherchies® Cuban Black Beans and Rice

First, prepare the beans as directed on the package.

Add 8 cups of water instead of 10 cups to the slow cooker as indicated on the package directions. Add the pre-soaked and softened beans and the rest of the package ingredients to your slow cooker. You can add the chopped onion and garlic without cooking in the olive oil. Also, add the can of tomatoes at this time. *Cook on low 8 - 10 hours or high 4 - 5 hours.

Cherchies® Italian Pasta e Fagioli

First, prepare the beans as directed on the package.

Add 6 cups of water, instead of 7 cups to the slow cooker as indicated on the package directions. Add the pre-soaked and softened beans and the rest of the package ingredients (except the pasta) to your slow cooker. You can add the chopped onion and the garlic without cooking in olive oil. You can also add the can of tomatoes at this time.

Because pasta takes such a short time to cook, we recommend that you cook it separately from the crock-pot. Cook in boiling water until done to your taste and then add to your finished soup. *Cook on low 8 - 10 hours or high 4 - 5 hours.
